Family Literacy Events

Family Literacy/ Numeracy Events

Since 2005, Investing in Children has partnered with the Thames Valley District School Board to provide inquiry based Family Literacy Events to children in grades JK- 3.

Family Literacy Events begin with a story, then the children and their parents or caregivers rotate through a series of 8-10 activities that engage the families in unexpected ways of developing literacy. Each station also includes methods to bring the learning into the home. With inquiry based learning, the students' questions, ideas and observations are placed at the centre of the learning experience.

There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book.
— Frank Serafini

Family Literacy Events run three times each school year in multiple schools across Thames Valley District School Board. We also regularly participate in National Family Literacy Day as well as other Family literacy initiatives held across our community.

In partnership with:

“This event was lovely! Well organized and very engaging for the children. All of the activities were fun and appealed to many ages (Mom and Dad even learned some new things.) Thank you for bringing this to our school community.” - Parent

“ It was fantastic! We had families come and participate in the fun and engaging activities. The snacks, stories and centres were relevant and directly supported our school literacy and numeracy goals. We are so glad you came!” - Principal

Volunteers are needed for upcoming Family Literacy/Numeracy Events!
