Blue Boxes for Books
Blue Boxes for Books creates new literacy opportunities for all children in London and area. It’s well known that literacy is the cornerstone to a child’s development and well being, including school and future employment success. We hope to “spread the word” and encourage literacy in a new and exciting way.
Blue Boxes for Books features recycling boxes filled with children's and youth’s books placed in strategic locations throughout London and area.
Children are encouraged to choose a new or gently used book from the box. They can read it while waiting, take the book home to bring back on their next visit, or keep it! The goal is to get children and youth reading!
Each participating location “adopts” a Blue Box for Books Starter Kit. We provide the blue boxes filled with new or gently used books, along with a sign identifying the program. This box is placed in the waiting area and families will be encouraged to read, take, and share books. Once a location runs out of books, just let us know and we will come and fill it back up!
