Blue Boxes for Books
Blue Boxes for Books builds on our existing programs and creates new literacy opportunities for all children in London and area. It’s well known that literacy is the cornerstone to a child’s development and well being, including school and future employment success. We hope to “spread the word” and encourage literacy in a new and exciting way.
Blue Boxes for Books features recycling boxes filled with children's books placed in strategic locations throughout the city. To date, we have over 45 locations.
Children are encouraged to choose a new or gently used book from the box. They can read it in the waiting room, take the book home to bring back at their next visit, or keep it! We hope they might return it to a Blue Box for Books or even contribute other books from their own shelves. The goal is to get them reading!
Each participating location “adopts” a Blue Box for Books Starter Kit. We provide the blue boxes filled with new or gently used books, along with stickers identifying the program. This box will be placed in the waiting area and families will be encouraged to read, take, and share books.
We would like to thank Healthy Kids Community Challenge and Goodwill for donating books to our program.
If you would like to donate books or adopt a bin, please e-mail Sarah at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 519-433-8996 ext 225.
Investing in Children charges a small, one-time donation fee to become a Blue Boxes for Books host. In exchange, the bin is refilled with books on a seasonal basis.
Thanks to Healthy Kids Community Challenge for donating books which we have been spreading throughout the city!
