Investing in Children Blog

Authors, and Illustrators, and Bloggers... Oh My!

Book Camp London is a unique camp for kids who love to read and write, connecting campers with professionals from the world of young adult and children's literature.

Last week, we held the 10th Annual Book Camp London at the London Public Library. 36 children attended the camp, learning from the talented and diverse group of presenters we lined up for the week.

We had authors...

a graphic novel illustrator...

an Indigo Teen blogger...

a spoken word artist...

and a motivational speaker.

In addition to our presenters, librarians from the London Public Library held daily Book Talks with our campers, where they shared some of their favourite books and gave suggestions based on our campers' interests. View the suggestions from one of our Book Talks here.

Throughout the week, our campers also took part in Writers Workshops and Read/Write/Research times. They had the opportunity to work on their own writing with volunteers, and if they chose, submit their work to be included in our Book Camp Magazine. We are beyond impressed with our campers' stories, poems and illustrations this year! Take a look at the 2014 Book Camp London Magazine here.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year's Book Camp London a huge success, including the London Public Library, Friends of the London Public Library, The Little Red Roaster, Panago Pizza at Fanshawe/Wonderland, Ontario Endowment for Children and Youth in Recreation, a fund held within London Community Foundation, plus our amazing volunteers and mentors.
